About PestWeb
PestWeb offers farmers regional information on current incidence and movement of pests
PestWeb is an insect pest monitoring and web based mapping tool for farmers, pest management professionals and researchers in the Northern Rivers Region of NSW.
Tracking the movement and distribution of pests helps farmers make crucial pest-management decisions.
Insect populations are monitored by farmer members on a weekly basis during the season using pheromone traps and visual monitoring techniques. Farmers then upload the monitoring results to an online database and analysis tool that graphically displays the distribution of insect pests over a period of time. This knowledge allows farmers to pro-actively institute IPM strategies to manage pests.
PestWeb on-line 'PrimeTime Forum' allows communication between all members.
What do PestWeb participants say about PestWeb
"I am more confident of my IPM decisions by being part of a network sharing observations and pest control initiatives. This past year we reduced our spraying and had minimal pest damage."
Andrew Starkey, Oxley Plantations
"As our only control of nut borer is using wasps (Trichogramma) PestWeb is an essential tool in determining when and what quantities to put out. With PestWeb I can get an instant regional overview of pest activity and movement in the area."
Peter Barton, Brookfarm
